David Feherty makes stunning Tiger Woods claim after Sebastian Munoz shoots 59 on LIV Golf
David Feherty’s latest claim involving Tiger Woods has ruffled plenty of feathers after Sebastian Munoz shot an incredible 59 at LIV Golf Indianpolis.
Renowned commentator and analyst David Feherty has stunned golf fans on social media with his latest claim involving Tiger Woods.Â
Feherty, 67, made his declaration involving the 15-time major champion during the live broadcast of LIV Golf Indianapolis at The Club at Chatham Hills.
Friday’s first round saw Torque GC’s Sebastian Munoz shoot a stunning 12-under 59 to open up a three-shot lead over a resurgent Dustin Johnson.
Munoz became the first player in the history of the professional game to record a 59 with a double-bogey on the card.
The Colombian also became the third player in LIV Golf history to shoot a sub-60 round joining his Torque GC captain Joaquin Niemann, who shot 59 at 2024 LIV Golf Mayakoba, and Bryson DeChambeau who memorably shot a 58 at 2023 LIV Golf Greenbrier.
Munoz is no stranger to a low round as he also fired a pair of 60s during the 2021/22 PGA Tour season.
LIV Golf Indianapolis marks the final regular event of the season where Niemann is closing in on a first Individual Championship.
David Feherty stuns fans with Tiger Woods claim
During the live broadcast, Feherty, who left NBC Sports to join LIV Golf for a huge fee in 2022, shocked plenty of fans when admitting Munoz’s round of 59 trumped anything he has ever seen before on the ground, even having followed Tiger Woods in his prime on the PGA Tour.
“It’s not often I’m lost for words,” said Feherty.
“I’ve spent the last 20 years of my broadcasting career on the grounds with Tiger Woods – and I’ve never seen anything like this.”
A number of golf fans rushed to social media to take aim at Feherty’s comment, especially given it was a birdie-fest first round where 37 out of 54 players all broke par.
“That’s a pretty insane comment from David Feherty,” wrote one fan.
Another commented: “Feherty just compared Munoz to Tiger. Call the police.”
“Tiger won a Masters by 12 and a US Open by 15, what Munoz is doing is crazy good but there’s no need for hyperbole,” tweeted one fan.
