Most fans would probably agree that the Masters Tournament is the best individual event in professional golf.

The other three major championships and The Players are all special, but there is something different about The Masters.

From the par-3 competition to the Green Jacket ceremony, the traditions at Augusta National separate the event from all others.

Former Masters champion Danny Willett has now made an interesting point about another famous tradition, the Champions Dinner.

What separates Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus at the Masters Champions Dinner

Danny Willett was one of the most surprising winners in Masters history, so it comes as no surprise that he felt out of place at the Champions Dinner.

However, the Englishman explained that almost everyone at the celebratory event feels the same way.

Willett assumes that Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus are the only two Masters winners who do not feel lucky to be there.

“It’s weird. I speak to a lot of people about this,” he said in a recent YouTube video. “It doesn’t feel like that now. I’m like, you know, I’m nearly 10 years on and I know everyone now.

“Okay, you still pinch yourself a bit, but when I did my speech and I hosted the dinner, you have a minute in the bathroom, you’re like, ‘How the hell are you here?’ You know what I mean? And it’s like, ‘Do I belong here? Do I deserve to be here?’

“Some of the old boys were brilliant because they then come up and they’re like, ‘Great shot,’ and everyone knows how hard it is to win a golf tournament, let alone that one. They’re all brilliant.

“[Couples is] brilliant. Never has a man ever worn a green jacket and a pair of trainers better in their life on a Tuesday night, casually in a pair of chinos. You know, they’re all just lovely. I know Trev well. He lives near me in Orlando.

“Trev’s always brilliant. Scotty’s amazing. For some weird reason, I ended up sitting next to Bubba and Charl. I’ve known Charl for years through the European tour.

“Everyone, when they’re in there, the more you chat to them and the more you see it, but everyone’s the same. They’re all laughing. They all still can’t believe that they did it, apart from Tiger and Jack, who won loads. Everyone else in there is still probably like, ‘This is amazing.’”

What Jack Nicklaus thought of Scottie Scheffler’s Masters Champions Dinner

The most recent Masters Champions Dinner was hosted by 2024 winner Scottie Scheffler in May this year.

As per tradition, Scheffler chose the full menu for the event, which comes with a lot of pressure to impress the other players.

Well, six-time Masters champion Jack Nicklaus seemed content with Scheffler’s choices, especially the dessert.

“It was spicy,” he said. “It was a choice of steak or blackened red fish. I actually took the steak. They had mac and cheese and cream corn, and some kind of – they called it broccoli, but I don’t think it was. It was more like kale.

“The best part to me was the skillet, the cookie with the ice cream in the centre. That’s what I ate! Then he had sliders to start with and firecracker shrimp and things like that.

“It was so much food that if you had eaten it, you would have walked out needing a stomach pump. But I was pretty modest in what I ate, so it worked out fine for me.”
