Brandon Blackstock’s Teen Son Seth Honors Late Dad with Poignant Photos Saying ‘Lost My Hero’

Seth Blackstock’s words were simple, but they carried the kind of weight only a son can feel when the man who raised him is gone.

On August 8, just one day after Brandon Blackstock’s death, Seth posted a series of photos on Instagram, snapshots of horses, fishing trips, and a proud dad watching his boy grow up. But it was the caption that stopped people cold. “I lost my hero yesterday,” he wrote. “Words can’t describe how proud of you I am on raising me and your 3 other kids. You were a father, a son, a brother, and most importantly my best friend. You’ll have to watch me grow up from a Birds Eye view now but that’s ok with me.”

Brandon, 48, had fought melanoma for more than three years, keeping the battle private until the very end. He shared Seth and his older sister, Savannah, with his first wife, Melissa Ashworth, and later had two more children, River and Remington, with Kelly Clarkson before their 2020 split.

In Seth’s tribute, there was no talk of fame or the music business his father once worked in. Instead, it was about mornings and sunsets, about hunting seasons and fishing lines. “There’s no one else on this earth that I would want to be my dad because no one can be half the man you were to me. I’ll see you every day when the sun rises and falls,” he wrote. And then, with the kind of humor that cuts through grief, Seth added, “I can confidently say all the deer and elk took a sigh of relief when the best hunter I’ve ever known laid his rifle down for the last time.”

He closed with a promise: “I love you so much and can’t wait to throw a line in the water with you again. Love you dad. Be good or good at it, love your son Seth.”

Brandon’s family confirmed his passing in a statement, saying he “passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.” It was the same day Silver Bow County’s coroner confirmed he had died at home in Butte, Montana, under hospice care.

Clarkson, who postponed her Las Vegas residency just one day before his death, had told fans she needed to be “fully present” for their kids. A source later said she was “devastated” for River and Remington, choosing to protect Brandon’s privacy for the sake of the family.

For those who knew him in the public eye, Brandon was once in the thick of country music, managing big names like Blake Shelton through his family’s company, Starstruck Entertainment. But in recent years, Montana was his stage. He traded the spotlight for the stillness of ranch life, starting Valley View Rodeo and spending his time with horses, cattle, and family.

Seth’s pictures painted that quieter life perfectly. There was one of him as a toddler in Brandon’s arms, another of father and son on horseback, and more from days that looked simple but meant everything.

Now those photos are all that’s left to capture the bond between a father and the son who called him his hero. And in the middle of all the loss, there is still that promise Seth made, that someday, somewhere, they will cast their lines into the same water again.

Because some goodbyes are not forever. They are just waiting for the next sunrise.
