The country music world was rocked Monday by the news that Billy Parker has died.

News 6 in Oklahoma reported that the legendary singer and disc jockey passed away Monday morning in a Tulsa hospital.

He was 88.

Parker, was a musician and a DJ, and his former station announced his death on social media.

“Our KVOO family took a big hit today,” a post on Big Country 99.5’s Facebook page read. “We are saddened to announce the passing of a legend, Billy Parker. Billy was with KVOO from 1971 up until his retirement in 2015. He won multiple ACM and CMA Awards, was inducted into the Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame and received the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Lifetime Achievement Award.

“Billy will forever be a part of the Voice of Oklahoma.”

News of Parker’s death spread across social media with many sharing their thoughts and prayers.

“If there was a good guy hall of fame, Billy Parker would be in it,” Jimmie Tramel wrote in X. “He emailed me almost every Sunday and always closed with ‘saw howdy to your dad for me.’ A recording artist and 5-time national DJ of the yar, Billy has died at 88.”

“Rest in peace, Billy Parker,” George Monks wrote on X. “A true legend in country music and radio, your voice shaped generations and brought joy to countless fans. Tulsa and the world of country won’t be the same without you.’

Parker was named Disc Jockey of the Year by the Country Music Association in 1974, and won the award form the Academy of Country Music in 1975, 1977, 1978 and 1984.

He was inducted into the Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame in 1992, and won the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters’ Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995.

But his career was not limited to his time as a disc jockey.

He had one heck of a music career, too.

The Oklahoma native released three albums — 1976’s Average Man, 1977’s Billy Parker and 1988’s Always Country — and had 23 singles make it onto the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.

News 6 said that service information for the singer and disc jockey is pending.
