Cody Johnson Recalls ‘Cheesy’ Way He Proposed To His Wife At Chain Restaurant
Cody Johnson has been married to his wife Brandi since 2008. In hindsight, Johnson admits his proposal might not have been ideal, although at the time, it seemed perfect.

“This might be really cheesy, so I’ll tell you how I proposed to my wife,” Johnson shares. “Our first date, I took her to a Texas Roadhouse here locally, and we sat in a booth. I was just so in love and I could not wait to make her my wife. A year later, to the date, we parked in the same spot, went to the same booth, and when we walked back out to the truck to leave, I got on a knee and asked her to marry me, and it was pretty special.
“But I’ve done more romantic things,” he adds. “Just for the record, I’ve done a lot of stuff.”
Johnson admits that being romantic with Brandi didn’t come naturally to him, at least at first.
“I’ve been married 15 years … You have to intentionally learn how to be romantic,” Johnson tells Coyote Country. “Because a lot of the times guys like me, you think you’re being romantic, and she’s just going, ‘Jesus.’”
“I’ve had to really with my wife in particular, really learn her,” he continues. “Like what I think might be romantic isn’t, but do the things that she thinks is romantic. Like something as simple as, ‘Hey, I ran your bathwater.’ ‘What?’ ‘Yeah, I ran your bath water.’ Oh, I just got points. Something simple. My wife’s very simple.”
“I’m Gonna Love You”
Johnson has a Top 10 song at radio right now, which will likely be used as the soundtrack for plenty of proposals. The Texan has a hit single with “I’m Gonna Love You,” a song he sings with Carrie Underwood.
“From the moment I heard this song, I heard Carrie’s voice on it. It was a non-negotiable for me; either we sing it together, or I wouldn’t sing it at all. It’s that special to me,” Johnson says. “Working with Carrie has been an absolute pleasure. She’s not only one hell of a singer, but she’s a class act all the way around. It warms my heart to work with someone who’s seen so much success in their career and they’re still so down to earth. I feel like this duet is going to be massive in so many ways, and I couldn’t be prouder of it!”
