Having hundreds of children and dreaming of becoming related to Musk through marriage?

A Chinese gaming billionaire has fathered over 100 children through surrogacy in the United States, according to the Wall Street Journal, based on numerous social media posts and reports. This information immediately sparked a major controversy in China, where surrogacy is prohibited.

The billionaire in question is Xu Bo (48 years old), the founder of the online gaming company Duoyi, who once expressed his desire to build a large family like a “dynasty”.

Calling himself “China’s number one father,” Xu Bo publicly stated in 2023 that he wanted to have at least “50 high-quality sons” (only sons, as he believes sons are superior to daughters) to inherit his business.

Also in 2023, a family court judge in Los Angeles (USA) rejected Xu’s application to confirm paternity in a previously unpublicized case.

Later, Weibo accounts allegedly linked to him stated that he had successfully appealed the decision.

On social media, these accounts also posted the view that “having many children can solve all problems,” and even dreamed of a scenario where Mr. Xu’s children would marry the children of billionaire Elon Musk.

Ex-girlfriend speaks out

The case gained even more attention when Tang Jing, Xu’s former girlfriend, accused him of actually having over 300 children, according to NDTV, and the two are currently embroiled in a custody dispute over two of their daughters.

Mr. Xu stated that he transferred 819 million yuan (US$115 million) to Tang, but only received 515 million yuan in return, claiming that Tang still owes him 300 million yuan and has filed a lawsuit in 2024.

Conversely, Tang Jing asserted that the majority of the money received was used to cover living expenses and care for a large family of over 300 children over the past 10 years, including raising 11 children for many years.

“Over the past decade or so, the cost of maintaining and caring for a large family of 300 children has been enormous. Much of the money I received has been used for our daily living expenses during that time,” she wrote in a social media post, according to the South China Morning Post .

She argued that the figure of 300 children was not exaggerated, and might even be lower than the actual number, adding that many of the children did not have household registration.

Duoyi Network later denied the accusation, claiming that the figure of 300 was false. The company asserted that after many years of surrogacy in the US, Mr. Xu only had “over 100 children.”

According to reports, several of the children are currently living in a house in Irvine, California, and are being cared for by nannies.

This incident has sparked heated debate in China about the phenomenon of the super-rich going abroad – primarily to the US – to use surrogacy to give birth to children who will then acquire foreign citizenship, given that Chinese law completely prohibits this practice within the country.
