Carrie Underwood Sunday Night Football paycheck: Does she really earn $18M per season?
Are you kidding me??
Widespread reports claimed she earns prodigious sums for singing the SNF theme, and now Carrie Underwood has set the record straight

Rumors surged last year and flared again recently, with multiple outlets asserting Underwood earns $1 million per week-totaling nearly $18 million per season-to perform the SNF opening song.
However, her own comments tell a very different story. On The Howard Stern Show in May 2023, Stern asked plainly, “Is it true? It’s $18 million a year?”
Underwood replied with surprise: “For me? No!” After being asked for further clarity, she replied: “No. It’s pretty pro bono. I wish [it was $18M]. That’d be great. Awesome. Google steered you wrong there.”
That exchange dismantles the myth of a lavish paycheck and underscores the enduring respect she holds for the role-and the platform it grants.
Fame, favor, and football’s opening anthem
Underwood’s association with SNF began in 2013, when she replaced Faith Hill. Since then, she’s delivered a new version of “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” every season.
NBC has consistently upgraded the production: recent years featured cinematic visuals, augmented reality elements, and onstage performances at the Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas.
Tripp Dixon, the show’s creative director, explained the intention behind the evolution: “For the 20th season of SNF, we wanted to set the tone for the night by reimagining the anthem sound … playing to Carrie’s powerhouse vocals while visually creating a seamless blend of stylized shots and behind-the-scenes moments…”
Underwood, in return, has embraced the creative process: “It’s just very glam. It’s always great, it’s always exciting. It’s always fun,” she said.
Exposure earns more than money
More than half a dozen awards, tours, and media ventures over the years have capped Underwood’s net worth-but she continues to approach SNF with humility. Its vast weekly audience-estimated at over 20 million viewers-offers unmatched exposure, even if the pay doesn’t.
Underwood remains one of the defining voices of fall broadcast television, but her paycheck is far from the inflated figures circulating online.
Her frank admission that the gig pays next to nothing not a secret golden ticket-it only speaks volumes about her character and priorities.
She’s not in it for the money, but for the honor. That rare humility only enhances the magic of her SNF performances.
