There comes a time in every girl’s life when she meets the love of her life and must decide to leave her first love, her mother. After meeting her true love, Carrie Underwood co-wrote the tear-jerking country ballad “Mama’s Song” to thank the woman who raised her.

“You just don’t think when your child is small that in just a few years it’s gonna be completely different,” says the country singer’s real mother, Carole Underwood, before the music begins. “And you look back and say ‘Where did that time go?’ It goes by fast.”

The video is set at what appears to be Carrie and Mike Fisher’s wedding reception. It features the glowing country singer and her husband en route to their honeymoon while her mother flips through a scrapbook filled with beautiful memories of the two of them.

The final picture in the scrapbook is a picture of Carrie and her mother at the wedding, closing the book after to go bid her daughter farewell leaving the reception with Mike. Carrie and her mother share a meaningful embrace before Carole sends her daughter off to start the rest of her life with the man of her dreams.

The first lyrics will make moms everywhere tear up as she sings,

“Mama, you taught me to do the right thingsSo now you have to let your baby flyYou’ve given me everything that I will needTo make it through this crazy thing called life.”

The song only gets better after, with Carrie reassuring her mama that the man she chose to spend her life with is “so good,” and treats her well.

Carrie Underwood‘s fans were treated to a performance by an unexpected guest during the singer’s REFLECTION: The Las Vegas Residency on Saturday (March 26). Carrie invited her mom Carole Underwood on stage to help her sing her 2007 hit “All-American Girl.”

“Come here, my love,” Underwood said as she led her mom to center stage. “This is mom! Are you ready? Do you have anything you want to say to these fine people?”

“I’m so happy you’re here and I hope you enjoy the show,” Carole said to the crowd of cheering fans before the intro for “All-American Girl” began to play.
The pair went on to perform the song together with Carole singing every word enthusiastically, even going solo at times.

Carrie shared photos of their performance on social media along with a note crediting her mom with her success.

“’If you wanna go, I’ll take you.’ These might have been the most pivotal words anyone has ever spoken to me,” Carrie wrote. “I was busy talking myself out of trying out for American Idol and my mom said these words…the rest is history. Tonight, I got to sing with her on stage in front of the most incredible crowd in #LasVegas ❤️ Life sure is amazing! Thanks, Mom, for everything!”

Saturday wasn’t the first time Carole joined her daughter on stage. During a 2019 tour stop in Tulsa, near Carrie’s Oklahoma hometown, Carole Underwood took on the rap parts in “The Champion.” The recorded version of the song featured rapper Ludacris and served as an opening theme for NBC Sports’ tv broadcast of Super Bowl LII.
