While Scottie Scheffler has barely scratched the surface if he hopes to be put alongside Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, there is little question that the world number one has done incredibly well to leave fans wondering whether he could get there.

Golf's new world No 1 Scottie Scheffler SMASHES Tiger Woods' 25-year-old record after winning WGC Match Play | The Sun

Scottie Scheffler has been the dominant force in golf for the last four years. The 29-year-old already has four majors under his belt, while he is only a US Open victory away from completing the Career Grand Slam.

At the BMW Championship, Scheffler became the first player since 1973 to register 13 consecutive top eight finishes on the PGA Tour. In fact, you would have to go back to the BMW Championship one year ago for the last time Scheffler finished outside of the top 30.

Obviously, he would need to quadruple his current tally of majors to overtake Tiger Woods. And even then, he would still be two behind Jack Nicklaus.

Brandt Snedeker suggests where Scottie Scheffler may already be better than Tiger Woods

The likes of Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth struggled to sustain their dominance in the majors over a longer period. So that will arguably be the challenge for Scheffler, particularly when you consider that he only won for the first time on the PGA Tour in 2022.

But it says everything that he is being mentioned in the same conversation as Woods and Nicklaus. In fact, perhaps there is one area of the game where Scheffler has already surpassed Woods.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast, Brandt Snedeker outlined how impressed he has been by Scheffler throughout his career.

“I think we’re getting kind of numb to it now because he’s been doing it for so long. Every time I watch him or I’m around him, I’m just so impressed – not only by his golf game, but by his competitive level, his willingness to go out and compete at a high level every week. Obviously, his golf game’s second to none, how he plays, his work ethic is through the roof, and he’s just a great human being on top of it all,” he said.

“I don’t know if we’ll ever see another person like him in my lifetime. I can’t say enough about it. Growing up, playing against Tiger, being out here with Tiger, I never thought I’d see that again. I’m seeing in a different form. Scottie goes about it differently to Tiger, for sure. But his stuff inside the ropes is as good, if not better than Tiger. It’s been unbelievable to watch and to see him execute great shot after great shot consistently over and over and over again, under the most pressure you can imagine has been so impressive.

“We’re going to lean on him a ton at the Ryder Cup. It would be stupid not to. And have him keep doing what he’s doing, because his level of play, the consistency, is just through the roof. It’s something on the level of Jack Nicklaus and then Tiger Woods to be able to play that consistently great, it’s just something I can’t even imagine.”

How many major appearances Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Scottie Scheffler before winning four titles

Obviously, it is extremely difficult to compare players from different eras. There are so many variables when it comes to the courses, the competition and the equipment.

You would think that Scheffler will need to reach double figures for major wins by the end of his career to stand a real chance of being put alongside Nicklaus and Woods.

Interestingly, Nicklaus and Woods both won their fourth major titles on their 21st start. Meanwhile, Scheffler is not far behind, with The Open Championship this year proving to be his 25th major appearance.

Some doubt whether Scheffler will become the greatest to ever play the game. But clearly, the fact that there is even a debate shows just how special Scheffler’s emergence in the last few years has been.
