Grammy-Winning Singer Accuses Trump of Scamming Voters

Brandi Carlile

The singer went on to say that Trump voters are feeling “duped” and are “feeling ashamed and embarrassed.”

Brandi Carlile appeared at Super Bowl LX a few weeks ago to perform “America the Beautiful.” But before her appearance, the “Human” singer shared why she loved the patriotic song’s idealism.

“That is a song that I can fully put every piece of my weight behind, every piece of my heart and soul I can put inside the lyric of ‘America the Beautiful’ and mean it,” she said at the time. “And if I couldn’t, I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t have sung it.”

Then last weekend, while performing in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she was once again asked about her politics, particularly her feelings on President Donald Trump.

She certainly didn’t hold back, but she didn’t talk down to those who voted for our country’s current Commander-In-Chief. We have the details below.

Brandi Carlile Says Trump Voters Got “Scammed”

Carlile was in Minneapolis on Feb. 21 not only to perform at the Target Center, but to raise money for the nonprofit The Advocates for Human Rights. The organization is working to support those affected by ICE arrests, detentions, and deportations in the city.

The concert comes at a time when ICE is under considerable scrutiny over its use of force during its immigration operations. It also played a role in the shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti of Minneapolis several weeks ago.

The operations have sparked nationwide protests and confrontations between citizens and federal officials.

Rolling Stone had some questions for Carlile after her performance about the operations and President Donald Trump. She then expressed empathy for those who voted for him.

“It’s very clear that this administration is not interested in legal immigration. They’re interested in violent theater,” she said. “Violent theater and dominance over other people. I don’t believe most people signed up for that.”

She added, “Even people who voted for Trump, who I’m angry with, I don’t think they voted for this, and I do think that they can still change their minds.”

She went on to say that those who are angry or feel “duped” or “ashamed and embarrassed” about voting for him should speak up.

“So, you got f*****g scammed,” she said. “We’re living in a scammy time, that’s what people do. You can’t even pick up your phone without getting scammed. Doesn’t mean you have to double down.”
