Utah Governor Spencer Cox told ABC News on September 14 that Tyler Robinson, 22, the suspect in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has not confessed and is not cooperating with investigators.

“The suspect has not confessed to the authorities. He has not cooperated,” Governor Cox said, adding that “everyone around the suspect is cooperating” and that is “very important.”

Robinson is in custody following the assassination. Governor Cox said the suspect is expected to face formal charges on September 16.

Governor Cox confirmed that the suspect has a transgender sexual partner. This information was previously disclosed by media channels.

“We can confirm that the suspect’s roommate, who is in fact his partner, is transgender,” Cox said, adding that the information has also been verified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to Cox, the suspect’s roommate is “actively cooperating with investigators.”

The Utah governor added that investigators also determined that the suspect contacted several acquaintances on the Discord platform after the shooting and said he was the suspect.

“All we can confirm is that those conversations definitely happened, but they didn’t believe he was the suspect. People thought it was a joke until he admitted he was the suspect,” Cox confirmed.

According to ABC News, the motive for the assassination remains unclear. Governor Cox previously told the Wall Street Journal that Robinson was “deeply left-wing indoctrinated.”

When asked by the ABC to comment on the claim, Mr Cox replied: “So far, this information has come from his acquaintances and family members.”

Activist Charlie Kirk, who is considered an ally of US President Donald Trump, was assassinated early on the afternoon of September 10 while giving a speech on the Utah Valley campus.

Activist Kirk was a co-founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), a student organization that promotes conservative values on liberal-leaning colleges.

The organization played a key role in the effort to encourage voters to vote for Mr. Trump and other Republican candidates in last year’s election, helping to flip the state of Arizona to Mr. Trump.

Robinson was arrested on September 12 after his father reportedly recognized his son in security camera video and convinced Robinson to turn himself in.

President Trump announced after the incident that the killer of activist Kirk should face the death penalty. Governor Cox also previously said the administration would seek the death penalty for the accused.

Bloomberg reported that the Trump administration has asked Congress for an additional $58 million to increase security measures for law enforcement and judicial officials.

The administration also supports expanding resources to protect lawmakers, the source said.
