Beyoncé wins her first Emmy with Beyoncé Bowl, putting her halfway to EGOT status
The special is also nominated for Outstanding Variety Special and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special.
Big news, BeyHive: Beyoncé is officially a Primetime Emmy winner.
On Tuesday, the TV Academy announced the first slate of winners from the 77th Annual Emmy Awards, in juried categories including animation, costume, emerging media programming and motion design. Among them was none other than Queen Bey, who won not for her music — but as a costume designer for her 2024 NFL halftime show performance, billed as the Netflix special, Beyoncé Bowl.
The win for Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Programming sees Beyoncé awarded alongside fellow costume designer Shiona Turini; assistant costume designers Erica Rice and Molly Peters; costume supervisor Chelsea Staebell; and head of workroom Timothy White.

Unlike the majority of Emmy categories, juried entrants are screened by a panel of professionals who then deliberate, discussing the merits of awarding the Emmy. All the same, Beyonce’s name will be among those celebrated at the September ceremony, which begs the question: will Queen Bey be present to accept, and perhaps perform to mark the occasion?
While the juried awards are presented at the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony — a separate event that takes place over two consecutive nights, Sept. 6, and Sept. 7 — Beyoncé is also up for Outstanding Variety Special, a category set to be presented during the Primetime telecast. (Her third 2024 nomination, Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, will also be presented at the Creative Arts ceremony.)

Whether or not she shows, Beyoncé will need to make room in her display case for at least one Emmy statuette — perhaps it can fit somewhere between her Peabody Award and her 35 Grammys. Speaking of which, the singer is now halfway to EGOT status, a hard won position considering this marks her 11th overall Emmy nomination.

Beyoncé Bowl, her Christmas Day NFL halftime performance, is available to stream on Netflix. The 13-minute-long special sees the superstar take to the field in her hometown of Houston, Texas.
Clad in a cowboy hat and on horseback, Beyoncé fully embraces the title of her 2024 country album, Cowboy Carter, performing a medley of songs from the record, including, “16 Carriages,” Ya Ya,” “My House,” “Spaghettii,” “Riiverdance,” “Sweet Honey Buckiin,” “Levii’s Jeans,” “Jolene,” and “Texas Hold ‘Em.” She was joined throughout by various special guests, like Shaboozey, Post Malone, and her Grammy-winning daughter and Mufasa costar, Blue Ivy Carter.
The 77th Emmy Awards will air live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025 on the CBS and Paramount+.
