According to documents revealed by The War Zone , the US Air Force is looking to purchase several Tesla Cybertrucks, not for combat use, but rather for use as test firing targets at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.

The reason is because the military is concerned that foreign competitors may start using the Cybertruck due to its superior durability and damage resistance, far surpassing traditional models such as the Toyota Tacoma or Ford F-150. According to market research on February 13, 2025, the Cybertruck stands out during use thanks to its angular design, the body is made of stainless steel, and is unpainted to increase impact resistance. With a series of advantages above, according to documents from the military, the Tesla Cybertruck is expected to be used for flight target testing training, simulating real-life situations with highly resistant vehicles.

The Cybertruck has been noted for its bulletproof capabilities in unofficial tests. Some influencers have fired 9mm and .45 ACP bullets at the body of the vehicle and the Cybertruck survived. However, high-velocity bullets are still a challenge.

Another incident that made the vehicle famous was the explosion outside Trump Tower in Las Vegas, when a Cybertruck rented on Turo and loaded it with fireworks and fuel. Elon Musk claimed that the Cybertruck blocked the explosion and redirected the blast upward, minimizing the damage.
Additionally, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov attached a machine gun to the Cybertruck’s bed and used it in the Ukraine conflict. Musk later reportedly disabled the vehicle remotely to prevent misuse of the technology.
All of these incidents have caught the attention of the US military, which now wants to test the Cybertruck live with missiles to assess its survivability in a combat situation.
