Elon Musk will pay congressman against Trump’s super bill

Elon Musk not only criticized President Trump’s super bill but also supported Congressman Massie – who once called this document a “fiscal suicide pact” of the Republican Party.

On social media platform X on July 1, billionaire Elon Musk responded to a post by Bryce Lipscomb, a former Michigan House candidate, asking who would contribute to Massie’s campaign. Musk simply replied, “Me,” and retweeted the post, the Hill reported.

Not stopping there, Musk also publicly praised Massie with the message: “You are amazing”, in response to a post by the congressman citing a Fox News report that Musk would support his campaign.

Massie was quick to thank him and responded with appreciation: “You’re so kind, thank you! A big part of my job is to keep the government from interfering and screwing things up, making it harder for the engineers and entrepreneurs who are really making this world a better place. I don’t think enough people appreciate what you and your team have contributed to civilization.”

Representative Thomas Massie was one of two House Republicans who voted against Mr Trump’s spending “super bill” – a package that bundled together several key campaign promises including extending tax cuts from 2017 and eliminating a tax on workers’ tips.

Congressman Warren Davidson (Ohio) was the other vote against the bill.

Massie has long been a vocal critic of the spending bill within the Republican Party. In a post on X last month, he called the bill “a fiscal suicide pact between the White House and Republicans in Congress.”

Not only that, Massie also openly criticized the Trump administration’s decision to launch airstrikes on multiple Iranian nuclear facilities amid escalating tensions with Israel , making him even more of a thorn in the side of Trump’s loyal allies.

This opposition angered President Trump, and at the same time activated a pro-Trump super PAC to find a candidate to replace Massie in the upcoming election.

Notably, Elon Musk once worked in the Trump administration as a member of the Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) – an effort to streamline the bureaucracy. However, the relationship between the two has been severely strained recently, especially after public arguments on social media.

Although Musk later said he regretted some of his comments, the distance between the two men has grown. Earlier this week, Musk said he would support any Republican candidate who stood up to challenge lawmakers who voted for Trump’s super bill.

Responding to Trump’s recent comments to reporters, in which he hinted that “We might have to have DOGE monitor Elon,” Musk wrote on X: “It’s really tempting to take this further. Very, very tempting. But I’m holding back for now.”

Meanwhile, the tax-cutting and spending bill, commonly known as the “big, beautiful bill” (OBBBA), was passed by the US Senate on July 1. Mr. Trump’s allies now expect the House of Representatives to approve it soon so that the document can be sent to the President for his signature before the US Independence Day on July 4.
