Tommy Fleetwood says if he watched what Scottie Scheffler was doing during the final round at the Tour Championship

Tommy Fleetwood shares the advice he's recently given to Scottie Scheffler

For once, Tommy Fleetwood got the better of the entire field in a PGA Tour event at the Tour Championship last week, Scottie Scheffler included.

Fleetwood finally broke his PGA Tour duck when he won the Tour Championship at East Lake by three shots from Russell Henley and Patrick Cantlay and four strokes from Scheffler.

It was clear to see during the Tour Championship that Fleetwood is one of the most popular players on the PGA Tour.

The fact that he had the East Lake crowd behind him while coming up against numerous American players tells us all we need to know.

Gary Player was just one of numerous big names to congratulate Fleetwood after he got the PGA Tour monkey off his back in Atlanta, Georgia.

Now the challenge for Fleetwood will be to win more regularly in America, with world number one Scheffler having set the benchmark.

Tommy Fleetwood says if he was worried about Scottie Scheffler at the Tour Championship

Scheffler has been in breathtaking form over the past three months.

Despite a slow start to the 2025 season, he still ended up with five wins and 16 top-10 finishes from 19 starts.

The 29-year-old finished inside the top-25 in every single event he played and an incredible 11 top-5s.

Fleetwood will be looking at what Scheffler has done over the past couple of years, and trying to see where he can improve to compete with him on a more consistent basis from the start of next season onwards.

The Englishman spoke on the Pardon My Take Podcast about his recent win at East Lake, and responded if he was aware of the world number one’s presence on the leaderboard during the final round of the Tour Championship.

He said: “A little bit but not loads because I was kind of locked in on what I was doing. I vaguely had a score in my mind that I felt if I got to, especially after Patrick’s start, because a lot depended on how he was doing, I was playing with him and we were on the same score at the start of the day.

“He had a bit of a rough start, so he was always playing catch up but you do see it. As much as you try not to, they are around and you do see them.

“But I was focusing on my thing and I started to play well on the back nine, so I didn’t pay that much attention.“

When Scheffler birdied the 14th hole at East Lake on Sunday, he was right in the mix. However, a double bogey on the 15th hole quickly put an end to his hopes of winning.

It would have been interesting to see how Fleetwood handled the final few holes, had Scheffler parred the 15th and finished up at 16-under.

Fleetwood vs Scheffler 2025 PGA Tour stats

Fleetwood was terrific all season long on the PGA Tour.

He actually ended up finishing second in strokes gained total, behind only Scheffler.

However, how did he compare to the world number one in all other departments?

Fleetwood will be able to see in black and white just how much he has to improve if he is to match Scheffler on a consistent basis moving forward.

The good news is that he proved to himself last week that he has the ability to win the very biggest tournaments in the game.

And the self-belief that will give him will be priceless.
