Carrie Underwood’s life might look glamorous on TV and on the stage, but behind the scenes, she embraces a much quieter lifestyle and has even grown a love for many of the trending “granny hobbies.”

According to TODAY, the rise of this trend has continued to grow as more people look for ways to slow down and spend less time online. Crafts that were once commonly associated with older generations, like needlepointing, crochet, sourdough baking, painting, and more, have now become a comforting escape for younger people who find themselves stuck in a cycle of constant doomscrolling.

Underwood tells On The Red Carpet that she’s also found a love for many of these activities as it gives her an entirely new creative outlet outside of her music career and her role as a judge on American Idol.

“I have granny hobbies. I love to crochet. I love to do a little birdwatching, and I have sourdough and I make my own kombucha, and I love to grow hot peppers and make my own fermented hot sauce,” she explained.

For Underwood, the public view of life in the spotlight only shows part of the picture. At home, as a wife and mother to two sons, she still embraces the everyday tasks of running a household.

“Everything is very compartmentalized in this entertainment world that we live in is not reality. Reality is vacuuming and cleaning toilets and doing laundry and gardening and cooking, then that’s a world I love,” she explained.

The “Hate My Heart” singer often gives a look into her life at home through social media, showing her various farm animals and all the different projects that she has developed a passion for.

It’s clear that Underwood is proud of all the hard work she puts into her hobbies. Back in December, she posted a photo of Ezekiel bread that she had made from her own grains she milled herself.

“I had to order some of the grains online because they’re a bit hard to find at the grocery store, but making the actual bread was surprisingly easy. It’s so yummy,” she wrote. “Extra fun to mill the grains myself. Excited to add this to my repertoire!”

Plus, during the last season of Idol, she sported several of her hand-made crochet outfits on set.

Whether it’s delivering her powerhouse performance on stage, guiding the next wave of aspiring singers on American Idol, or diving into her at-home creations, it’s clear that Carrie Underwood approaches each endeavor with the same level of dedication and care.

Fans can currently catch her on the judging panel alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan with new episodes airing Monday nights at 8/7c on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu.
