TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A 9-year-old girl hasn’t stopped smiling since the unforgettable night her idol pulled her on stage and shared the mic with her in front of a crowd of cheering fans.
It was the final night of the Thunder Country Festival in Tampa, and Lily Juliette was holding a sign that said, “Jelly Roll, I’m 9 years old, I can sing ‘Liar,’ and I promise not to steal your spotlight… just maybe your mic.”
The singer noticed her in the front of the crowd and motioned for her to come forward. Her father, Stijn Van Colen, then lifted her over a barricade and security helped her on stage.

Van Colen said it felt surreal watching as Jelly Roll knelt beside his daughter, gave her the mic, and let her sing part of his song.
“We were overwhelmed with emotion — pride, awe, and honestly just disbelief,” he said. “Seeing her hold her own in such a big moment, completely unrehearsed, was something we’ll never forget. It felt like time stopped.”
The crowd roared as Lily belted out the lyrics to the popular song. She and Jelly Roll then shared a hug before he lifted her hand into the air and the crowd erupted once more.
“Thank you so much for coming up here and singing with me sweet, young lady,” Jelly Roll said as she returned to her father’s side. “I hope you remember that moment for the rest of your life; and more importantly, I hope you remember that anytime you hear that voice in your head telling you that you’re not awesome, that is the voice of a liar, because you can do anything you want to do in life.”
It was a moment that Lily may very well never forget. Lily’s father said she has been singing since she could talk, whether it’s around the house, in the car, or on her own YouTube channel, where she has done covers of some of Jelly Roll’s songs.

Even at her age, Lily’s family said she connects with Jelly Roll’s music for the “honesty and heart” in his songs. The singer has spoken openly about how he struggled to overcome several personal battles in his early life.
Lily’s dream is to one day write her own songs, tour and inspire people — just like Jelly Roll has inspired her.
“He’s my favorite singer because his songs are so real and full of feelings. I’ll never forget how kind he was to me,” Lily said. “I want to keep working hard so I can sing on big stages like that one day too.”
Van Colen said he wishes he had gotten more time to thank Jelly Roll for making his daughter’s “dreams come true.” Had he gotten a chance to speak to him, Van Colen would have told the singer the following:
“We’d say thank you — from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for seeing her, for giving her that moment, and for showing kindness to a little girl with a big dream,” he said. “You have no idea what it meant to her — or to us as parents — to watch you lift her up like that, literally and figuratively. You didn’t just let her sing. You gave her the kind of memory that will stay with her forever. She’ll never forget it — and neither will we.”
