Liverpool given new $201M Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz transfer consideration

Liverpool has some tough decision to make this summer. Among them are what to do with Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz, two players being linked with exits in the transfer window.
Both players have been linked with Barcelona, while Paris Saint-Germain has also been touted as a potential suitor for Díaz. Both haven’t been at Anfield particularly long, with Díaz signing in the January transfer window in 2022 and Núñez arriving a few months later that summer.
Díaz is in an intriguing position, because he is believed to be on a relatively modest wage of a reported £55,000-per-week, much less than other first-team stars. That’s led to claims he could depart, with reports in Spain suggesting Barcelona is keen on his services.
Núñez, on the other hand, has faced questions having arrived for a huge fee from Benfica and with big expectations to lead the line. He’s struggled to find enough consistency and, after finishing the season out of favor under Jurgen Klopp, prompted questions about his own future by removing photos featuring Liverpool from his social media accounts.
What seems certain, especially under FSG and their transfer model, is that Liverpool would at the very least be open to the idea of letting either player leave if the price was right. They’re unlikely to be in a rush to let either go, and it’s been claimed new manager Arne Slot sees a big role for Núñez, but in the current climate, everyone has their price.
That’s where a recent report paints an interesting picture. The report from the CIES Football Observatory has compiled a list of the 100 most valuable players in world football at this moment in time. Based on 5,500 paid transfers, they use a statistical model taking into account the various factors involved in fees paid by clubs. That includes things such as age, length of contract, minutes, level of matches played, results, economic strength of a player’s club and league, inflation, potential buyers and other factors to determine estimated market value.
Six Liverpool players feature on the list. The second highest, ranked 23rd, is Núñez, with a $116.66M (£91.77m/€107.9m) valuation. Díaz is ranked 65th at $84.54M (£66.51m/€78.2m). The two combined are considered worth $201.2M (£158.34m/€186.15m).
While there is no guarantee Liverpool would get those fees, it is an indication of the sort of value both players could command. Both fees are higher than what they paid, only marginally in Núñez’s case, and indicate that if they did decide to move on, the club could make a profit on both players.
If that were to be the case, then it would certainly be a consideration for FSG. It could well consider cashing in for profit to reinvest elsewhere, given the transfer model under which the club operates.
The key factor in all that would be a suitor being interested enough to make an offer for either player in those ranges. Whether that will be the case or not remains to be seen, but Liverpool certainly has something to think about with Díaz and Núñez’s futures at the very least slightly uncertain.
