Scarlett Johansson recently gave an update on Amazon’s upcoming thriller, Just Cause, which is based on John Katzenbach’s 1992 novel. The actress not only stars in the series but also serves as an executive producer.
In an interview at the New York City premiere of her latest film, Fly Me To The Moon, Johansson revealed that the project is moving forward.

“It’s progressing well… the writing is underway,” she shared with Deadline. “There was a slight pause during the strike, so some of the development was on hold, but now we’re actively writing.”

Just Cause marks Johansson’s first venture into television. The series was picked up by Amazon in 2022, receiving a straight-to-series order for Prime Video after significant competition.

In the series, Johansson plays Madison “Madi” Cowart, a journalist covering the final days of a death row inmate.
This role is a gender-swapped version of the original protagonist, Matt Cowart, a Miami newspaper editorial writer from the novel.
Johansson has a personal connection to the story, as she appeared in the 1995 film adaptation of Just Cause when she was 10 years old, playing the daughter of the main character.

The series is co-written and executive-produced by filmmaker Cord Jefferson and writer John Wells, with John Wells Productions involved in production.
Christy Hall, known for I’m Not OK With This and Daddio, is also contributing to the script under Johansson’s production banner, These Pictures, and Warner Bros. Television.
