Marc Guehi on Erling Haaland’s contribution: “The manager gave him a little speech inside on how amazing he was today!

His work ethic is amazing, fighting for every single ball against Dan Burn – it’s not easy! Dan’s so strong, so good in the air.

He’s a real focal point for us at the top of the field. I’m glad he’s done so well for us today!

Not a bad centre back? I think he should stay up front for sure, I don’t want him to take my place or anything! But he’s amazing!”

Marc Guehi has praised teammate Erling Haaland for his unexpected defensive contribution during Manchester City’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United.

While Haaland is widely known for his goalscoring prowess, Guehi revealed that Pep Guardiola singled out the striker in the dressing room for his work off the ball.

“The manager gave him a little speech inside about how amazing he was today. His work ethic is amazing.

“Fighting for every ball against Dan. It’s not easy, Dan is so strong, so good in the air. Haaland is a real focal point for us at the top of the field,” Marc said.

Despite joking suggestions about Haaland’s defensive display, Guehi was quick to dismiss any talk of a positional switch: “I think he should stay up front for sure! Don’t want him to take my position or anything!”
