Patrick Mahomes Breaks Silence on Appearance Change Before 2025 Season

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs enter the 2025 season coming off of a loss in Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Not long after the loss, the superstar quarterback opted to make a major change to his appearance – one that caught fans off-guard. Mahomes cut his patented locks, sheering off his curly hair for a much shorter, tailored look.

Why Did Mahomes Cut His Hair?

Just a few months later, Mahomes revealed why he decided to make the change, telling USA Today that he’s been looking forward to the haircut for quite some time.

“I was ready to get my hair cut the last three years,” Mahomes said. “We had won the Super Bowl two years in a row. I told the guys I was getting a haircut this year, even if we won. I’m turning 30. Wanted to change it up. It worked out. I still have a little bit of curls up top. It’s just not as long as it used to be.”

How the Super Bowl Loss Impacted His Mindset

The last time the Chiefs lost a Super Bowl the team went on to win two straight Super Bowl titles before losing in a third-straight appearance against the Eagles. Following the latest loss, Mahomes wants to know how his team will respond.

“When you make it that far and then you’re at the end, it just hurts,” Mahomes said. “You put so much hard work into it. So, losing on that final step is always hard. But it’s how you respond. I thought we responded well after that last Super Bowl loss, just kind of building back and getting even better and winning a couple more championships.”

Before he was a Super Bowl Patrick Mahomes was puttin numbers and lighting up th time at Texas Tech. But wh face him back in college?

“So, now it’s about, ‘Where are we going to go now? Are we going to get even better from that loss? Are we going to find ways to make everyone better, not just one person?’ I feel like we’ve done that in camp. But you can’t prove it until you go out there and do it.”

Kansas City opens the 2025 season against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5 in Brazil.
