Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish admitted captain Marc Guehi could be sold to avoid losing him on a free next summer, with Liverpool reported interested in the England international .
”For players of that caliber to leave on a free, it’s a problem… We had a bid in January but that was a difficult situation and the player had a point of view on that one.
“So we just have to wait and see what happens, but it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”

Palace Face Contract Dilemma Over Key Defender
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has admitted that captain Marc Guehi could be sold in the current transfer window, with Liverpool among the clubs closely monitoring the situation. The 24-year-old England defender has entered the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, leaving the South London side facing the risk of losing him for free next summer.
Liverpool and Newcastle are both interested, with Arne Slot’s Premier League champions understood to be Guehi’s preferred choice. However, Liverpool have yet to match Palace’s £40 million valuation. Newcastle saw bids exceeding £50 million turned down last summer, while Tottenham had an offer worth up to £70 million rejected in January.
When asked directly whether Palace would allow their captain to leave this month if a suitable offer arrives, Parish was candid.
“We’d have to do that, of course,” he said. “For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it’s a problem for us unfortunately. [Last summer] Joachim [Anderson] went [to Fulham] and we couldn’t afford to lose both. We then had another bid in January but that was a different situation. We’ll just have to see what happens. But, you know, it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”

Liverpool and Palace Weigh Their Options
Guehi is prepared to see out his contract if necessary, and is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs in January. Arsenal have also shown interest in Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze, highlighting the possibility of multiple high-profile exits.
Parish underlined that decisions would only be made if they suited both the player and the club.
“As far as people being here or not being here, it depends,” added Parish. “If it’s the right decision for the football club and for them, nobody can make anyone go, then there’ll be some changes.”
Glasner’s Transfer Concerns and Parish’s Response
Palace manager Oliver Glasner has publicly expressed concern at the lack of transfer activity this summer. However, Parish remains committed to backing his manager following the club’s second trophy in three months.
“I admire Oliver so much. He just wants to win trophies and football matches,” Parish said. “The Premier League is kind of crazy, the money that people spend and the kind of financial jeopardy that people take. So I have to look at everything around [that].
“We’ll do everything we can in the next few weeks to give ourselves the best chance. But at the end of the day, the amount of money we’ve got isn’t infinite.”

European Appeal Looms Large for Palace
Beyond the transfer market, Palace are awaiting the verdict from the court of arbitration for sport on their appeal against demotion to the Europa Conference League. A decision is expected on Monday afternoon following Friday’s hearing in Lausanne.
“It’ll be good to put it behind us,” said Parish. “I’m determined that we get the right outcome – if we don’t, we’ll have to look at if there’s any steps after that. But after Friday, I don’t understand how we cannot be in the competition.”
With Liverpool considering a move, Newcastle monitoring developments, and Palace facing a significant decision on their captain’s future, the coming weeks could reshape the next chapter for Marc Guehi and the club.
