Rock musician Kid Rock is facing criticism after a line from one of his older songs about “liking” underage girls went viral online. The song, called “Cool, Daddy Cool,” first came out more than 20 years ago and is now being shared widely on social media as the lyrics resurface in public discussion.

The song “Cool, Daddy Cool” was part of the soundtrack for the 2001 animated movie “Osmosis Jones.” In the song, lyrics mention “young ladies” and say “I like ’em underage,” which sparked backlash online. The lyrics circulated widely on social media this week.

The song resurfaced after Kid Rock was named as the headliner for Turning Point USA’s “All‑American Halftime Show” that streams Sunday, February 8. That event is meant to be an alternative to the official Super Bowl halftime show, which stars Bad Bunny.

In response to the criticism, Kid Rock did not directly address the lyrics. Instead, he posted a quote on social media about “learning to love the hate” and said people are entitled to their opinions. Some of his followers interpreted this as dismissing the controversy.

“We’re approaching this show like David and Goliath,” Kid Rock said in a statement after the show was announced. “Competing with the pro football machine and a global pop superstar is almost impossible…or is it?”

The group did not directly address the song’s lyrics when announcing the show.
