Ahead of Sunday’s “All-American Halftime Show,” an “alternative” Super Bowl halftime show organized by conservative group Turning Point USA, people on social media are pointing to what they say is hypocrisy considering some past lyrics by headliner Kid Rock.

The show, billed as a celebration of “American faith, family and freedom,” according to TPUSA, was created due to right-wing outrage over the NFL’s selection of global superstar Bad Bunny for Halftime Show headliner.

Puerto Rican Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration’s immigration raids. This past Sunday at the Grammy Awards, where he won the night’s top honor, the Spanish language artist boldly pronounced, “ICE out.”

Last year, the music and film star also protested Trump’s policies by refusing to bring his world tour to the contiguous U.S., instead opting for a 30-date residency in Puerto Rico, with the tour bringing an estimated $176 million to the U.S. territory.

The 55 year-old Kid Rock has dissed Bad Bunny in the lead up to the shows, with the “Cowboy” singer saying, “We’re approaching this show like David and Goliath. Competing with the pro football machine and a global pop superstar is almost impossible…or is it? He’s said he’s having a dance party, wearing a dress, and singing in Spanish? Cool. We plan to play great songs for folks who love America.”

But many online were quick to point out that the framing of Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show as antithetical to “faith” and “family” was odd considering lyrics from the country singer’s own career. Most notably, social media users honed in on Kid Rock’s 2001 song, “Cool, Daddy Cool,” which contains the lyrics, “Young ladies, young ladies, I like ’em underage, see some say that’s statutory (but I say that’s mandatory).”

Though the lyrics are going viral online, Kid Rock has not spoken about it. Nexstar attempted to contact the singer’s representatives but did not immediately hear back.

At Sunday’s Grammy Awards, Bad Bunny won three awards, including an Album of the Year win for his monumental 2025 album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” which was also named among KTLA’s 10 best albums of 2025. The album was also the first Spanish-language album to win the Grammy’s top honor.

Kid Rock himself has framed the shows as competitors, though it’s highly unlikely the 55 year-old’s “alternative” show will reach as many eyeballs as the proper NFL show. It’s also not accounting for the artist’s global popularity, with Bad Bunny being Spotify’s top-streamed artist in the world multiple times, including 2025, with over 19.8 billion streams on that platform alone.

Kid Rock was last nominated for a Grammy in 2009, one of his five nominations, though he’s yet to win one. His last entry on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 was 2015’s “First Kiss,” which peaked at no. 66.
