Antoine Semenyo’s long-term future at Bournemouth has quickly turned into one of the most talked-about transfer stories heading into the January window, with several Premier League giants closely tracking the forward’s situation. Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City are all keeping a very close eye on developments, and their interest has only grown in recent weeks as speculation continues to build around the 25-year-old’s next career move.
Semenyo committed his future to Bournemouth during the summer by signing a new contract, but that deal reportedly includes a release clause in the region of £65 million.
That figure has immediately drawn attention from England’s biggest clubs, who see it as a reachable price for a player entering his prime and showing consistent improvement. With the winter transfer period approaching, the existence of that clause has pushed Semenyo even further into the spotlight.
According to information revealed on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Liverpool are currently viewed as the leading contenders in the race to secure Semenyo’s signature. Even though both Arsenal and Manchester City remain interested and continue to monitor him, sources believe Liverpool feel unusually confident about their chances of persuading the Ghanaian international to make the move to Anfield.

This level of optimism is said to exist despite Liverpool’s recent struggles in form and results, which some expected to weaken their standing in transfer discussions.
This growing belief from Liverpool aligns with an earlier report published by Football Insider on 2 December, which stated that the Merseyside club were already in pole position at that time.
However, one key question still remains unresolved: Would Semenyo actually be willing to leave Bournemouth in the middle of the season? While the release clause gives any club the power to trigger negotiations, the decision to move in January rather than wait until the summer could influence the player’s thinking.
The £65 million clause itself is considered manageable for all three interested clubs, but it’s far from certain whether any of them will choose to activate it in the upcoming window. January deals of that magnitude can be complicated, especially when the selling club is reluctant to lose a key player before the season is complete.
Another factor that may work in Liverpool’s favour is the presence of sporting director Richard Hughes, who previously played a major role in bringing Semenyo to Bournemouth.
A Football Insider update from October highlighted Hughes’ strong relationship with both the player and the Bournemouth hierarchy, suggesting that his past involvement could give Liverpool a subtle but meaningful advantage. With Hughes now leading Liverpool’s recruitment strategy, there is growing belief that he may attempt to reunite with Semenyo at Anfield if the opportunity presents itself.
Overall, the situation remains open, but the momentum behind Liverpool’s pursuit appears to be increasing as January approaches.
