Action filmmaker Ric Roman Waugh will now have two movies coming out in 2026. Black Bear has just dated the director’s Jason Statham-led action thriller, which has now been officially titled Shelter.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Shelter is part of Black Bear’s new U.S. theatrical distribution arm, which launched in July. The indie studio has announced a Jan. 30, 2026 release date for the action thriller, which stars Statham as a reclusive man who lives in a remote house by the sea. “When he rescues a young girl from drowning in a terrible storm, he unwittingly sets off a chain reaction that soon brings violence his way, forcing him to confront choices from his past,” reads the logline for Shelter.

“Jason is an icon who continues to be at the top of his game,” said Benjamin Kramer, Black Bear’s U.S. distribution president, in a statement. “Bringing him together with Ric, another distinguished force in the action space, along with a gripping story and an exceptional group of fellow cast members, promises to make this a must-see event.”

Starring alongside Statham in Shelter are Bodhi Rae (Hamnet), Naomi Ackie (Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody), and Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean). Ward Perry wrote the script. Shelter marks the first time Statham has worked with Waugh, who has become known in recent years for his frequent collaborations with Gerard Butler, having directed the actor in Angel Has Fallen (2019), Greenland (2020), Kandahar (2023), and the upcoming Greenland 2: Migration (2026), which dropped its first trailer last week.

Statham’s other action thriller coming in 2026, Mutiny, was coincidentally also directed by a filmmaker who recently worked with Butler. Jean-François Richet, who helmed Butler’s 2023 hit Plane, was in the director’s chair for Mutiny, which stars Statham as a former NY police officer who is framed for murdering his billionaire friend. Annabelle Wallis and Roland Møller co-star in the action thriller, which was originally set to hit theaters on Jan. 9, 2026, before Lionsgate traded it out for Greenland 2: Migration. The studio is now eyeing a Summer 2026 release for Mutiny.

At the time of writing, Shelter and Mutiny are the only confirmed Statham-led movies set to be released in 2026. While production on the actor’s The Beekeeper sequel recently got underway, it’s currently unknown when distributor Amazon MGM Studios might want to release the movie. A late 2026 release window remains a possibility, although Amazon may want to save The Beekeeper 2 for January 2027, the same month the first movie was released in, in hopes the sequel achieves similar success at the box office as its predecessor. The first Beekeeper became a sleeper hit at the box office, grossing over $162 million worldwide back in early 2024.

While plot details remain under wraps for The Beekeeper 2, the sequel will reunite Statham with Jeremy Irons, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, and Jemma Redgrave, all of whom are returning from the first movie. New additions to the ensemble include Grown-ish actor Yara Shahidi, professional wrestler Adam Copeland, and Mission: Impossible and Guardians of the Galaxy scene stealer Pom Klementieff.
