Almost two years later, development on the series has stalled and according to a report from Collider, Amazon could lose rights to the wargames. The report revealed that the project would only move forward if Amazon and Games Workshop settled upon common creative guidelines.

The initial agreement reportedly gave one year for the two parties to hash out the details of the creative guidelines. However, that period is supposed to end in December 2024, meaning there are less than five months left for Amazon to finalize the details and save the project from obscurity.

Cavill had a disappointing exit from Netflix’s The Witcher following the show’s diversion from the source material. Henry Cavill has been vocal about his love for the Warhammer 40K game. During an interview with Josh Horowitz, Cavill shared his affection for the game. At the same time, the actor shed some light on the personal significance the game holds for him. He said:

It is the greatest privilege of my professional career to have this opportunity. I can’t say too much, again, it’s early days still. But to have this opportunity to bring it to screen, and be at the tiller so it can be faithful, is key to me.

Meanwhile, Cavill also added that it was a great honor for him to bring the cinematic universe to life, and such an opportunity was something he had dreamed of since becoming an actor.
