Krystal Keith paid tribute to her father, late country legend Toby Keith, during a recent NFL game.
Krystal attended a recent Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals game, where she performed the National Anthem and covered two of her father’s songs at halftime. It was part of the NFL’s Salute to Service initiative, per a post shared on Krystal and Toby’s Instagram accounts on Monday (November 24): “In true Toby Keith fashion, his daughter [Krystal Keith] paid tribute to our service members last weekend at the Steelers vs. Bengals game as part of the [NFL]’s Salute to Service initiative. She sang the National Anthem before the game, then honored Toby with her renditions of ‘Don’t Let The Old Man In’ and ‘American Soldier’ at halftime.”
Krystal said in a separate post that it was “a dream come true” to perform that day, and paying tribute to “both my dad and servicemen and women by singing the anthem and doing the half time show was such an honor.”
Toby “passed peacefully…surrounded by family,” on February 5, 2024. he fought a years-long battle with stomach cancer with grace and courage,” per a statement issued at the time. He was 62. Toby is survived by his wife, Tricia Covel, daughters Krystal and Shelley Covel Rowland, son Stelen Keith Covel, and his grandchildren. Tricia said when her late husband was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame last year that “there’ll never be another Toby Keith.”
Krystal has previously shared heartfelt tributes to her late father, including when she marked one year without him earlier this year. She wrote at the time: “It feels like yesterday we said goodbye and yet it somehow has also been the longest year without him. I can’t help but find gratitude in all the time we had because we did all of life as a family unit. It’s hard to find a candid picture where he doesn’t have one of our babies in his arms. He was their favorite, and they were his. Our littles miss their buddy big time but we all know we will see him again someday. Until then, he will watch over us and walk beside us. Every sunset (and he LOOOOVED his sunsets) is a reminder that he wants us to live our best life and do good in the world. So that’s exactly is what we will do. ❤️”
