Home Alone has been voted the Greatest Christmas Movie of All Time, beating The Nightmare Before Christmas in an 86% vs 14% vote!
Well, it’s official: Home Alone has been voted the “greatest Christmas movie of all time.” That that, ya’ filthy animals.
Macaulay Culkin’s inescapable 1990 Christmas classic emerged victorious with over 446,000 votes following an Instagram poll set by Pubity in early December.
The goal was to end an age-old question: What’s the best festive film ever set to celluloid? With heavily-decorated hits like Elf, Scrooged and The Muppet Christmas Carol all in the running, the poll certainly got people talking.
All in all, Pubity’s Christmas call-out wracked up over 10 million votes, with passionate film fans sounding off in the comments as to which bauble-adorned gem should be crowned as the overall winner.
However, by the time all was said and done, Home Alone bagged the top spot.

A movie about an 8-year-old boy who is accidentally left to defend his home from robbers after his parents forget to take him on holiday, Home Alone is a Christmas staple.
In the 34 years since its debut, director Chris Collumbus’s movie has become a regular sight every December. You can’t really avoid it.
After years of relative silence, its now all-grown-up star has gotten in on the action too. Culkin is currently on an American tour celebrating the movie and its legacy.
Billed as a “Nostalgic night with Macaulay Culkin”, each event comes with a screening of the movie followed by a Q&A with Culkin himself.
While Home Alone remains Pubity readers’ firm festive champion, it received healthy competition from Tim Burton’s sinister The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Released in 1993, Burton’s film was directed by stop-motion icon Henry Selick. It pulled double-duty as an ideal movie to watch during Halloween and Christmas.
Sadly, its cross-seasonal themes weren’t enough to win over Pubity readers’ hearts. The Nightmare Before Christmas came in second with 85,000 votes.
Will there be a Home Alone remake?

Despite Culkin taking to the road to celebrate Home Alone’s legacy, it doesn’t look like he’s planning on starring in a remake any time soon.
Still, it hasn’t stopped fans from dreaming. Earlier this year, a fan-made poster for something claiming to be a new Home Alone sequel featuring original stars Culkin and Catherine O’Hara went viral on Facebook.
Naturally, the news got people talking. However, those who stuck around to read the caption accompanying the poster quickly learned that sadly, it wasn’t real.
