New York Times bestselling author Callie Hart just added a new job title to her resume: executive producer! After a fierce 7-figure bidding war, Netflix officially won the adaptation rights to Hart’s romantasy BookTok hit Quicksilver. “I am so bad at keeping secrets, but this one was so worth the wait,” Hart announced on Instagram. “Quicksilver is getting a movie, guys! Netflix will be turning Fisher and Saeris’ story into the most incredible feature length visual masterpiece—and I am officially freaking out!”
FIRST recently had the chance to sit down with Hart to discuss Quicksilver’s success, the upcoming movie and just how involved she’ll be in the process. So keep scrolling to find out everything we know so far about the Quicksilver Netflix adaptation, including fancasts, plot details, potential release dates and more!
7 Day Weather Forecast for BOSTON, MA for December 10, 2025
Quicksilver—the first book in Hart’s Fae & Alchemy series—is a New York Times bestseller and BookTok phenomenon described as “everyone’s next romantasy obsession.” The story centers on 24-year-old Saeris Fane, who knows how to keep secrets. She’s also an expert pickpocket who stops at nothing to protect those she loves from their land’s evil Queen. But when Saeris opens a gateway to another realm, she’s transported to a land of ice and snow. She’s the first of her kind to enter Yvelia in more than 1,000 years—and she mistakenly binds herself to a brutally handsome Fae warrior named Kingfisher. Will she ever make it out of Yvelia? And can she save those she loves back home?
‘Quicksilver’ Movie: what we know so far + updates from Hart
Netflix has optioned the rights to Hart’s Quicksilver in a 7-figure-deal, according to Deadline. Elizabeth Cantillon (Alien: Romulus, Charlie’s Angels) was tapped to produce for The Cantillon Company. “They’ve attached an amazing producer, Elizabeth Cantillon, who just got done working on Alien: Romulus which is fabulous,” Hart tells FIRST. Fan theories and speculation are buzzing online and many are waiting patiently for updates. “We are in the early stages of working through everything to really make this thing shine,” Hart adds. There’s even more great news for fans because Hart was named executive producer. “They’re very collaborative and inclusive—I have a very considerable voice in everything as executive producer which is also amazing. I’m enjoying the experience immensely.”
Who will play Kingfisher? Fan theories and Hart’s thoughts!
Kingfisher is Quicksilver’s handsome Fae warrior and resident “shadow daddy”—and to say he’s a fan-favorite character is an understatement! Between BookTok fancasts and online chatter, there’s a serious debate on who should portray the brooding hero. Even Hart weighed in on the speculation. “So I can’t talk about any names that are actually being passed around. I mean, lots of people have been postulating and thinking about who would make a good Kingfisher and who would make a good Carrion,” Hart exclusively tells FIRST.
“They’ve ranged from unknown actors to up-and-coming actors to very big names. So it’s very exciting,” she continues. “Like, you know, everyone wants Henry Cavill for everything and, of course, you can picture him in anything too, so it works. But I think a very talented up-and-coming person is also equally as exciting. So I can’t wait.” The jury is still out on who might portray Saeris, Carrion and other beloved characters!
Well, Hart thinks it should be—so it’s fantastic news she’s in the executive producer seat. In an interview with Swooon, Hart shared that maintaining the book’s tone in the adaptation is her main goal. “This is a very graphic book in many different ways. It’s dark. It’s sexy. It has graphic content and violence in all kinds of different ways,” Hart explains to Swooon. “My main goal here is to make sure that the basis of the movie isn’t lost, that the book isn’t lost. I really want any adaptation to stay true to the story, for it to be dark and gritty and sexy and all of the things that readers fell in love with.”
When will ‘Quicksilver’ release on Netflix?
As of April 2025, no official release date has been announced. With the project still in the early stages—and still awaiting a formal announcement about a screenwriter and director—it’s safe to say fans will likely have to wait until late 2026 or early 2027 for the movie. Luckily, fans can binge the second book in the Fae & Alchemy series, Brimstone, in the meantime! Brimstone is hitting bookshelves on November 18, 2025.
