Sometimes, hip hop history shows up as a Christmas gift. This week, Eminem reminded everyone how loyalty still matters.
Ahead of the holidays, Eminem surprised DJ Whoo Kid with an iced Shady Records chain, a deeply personal symbol inside the Shady universe. Naturally, Whoo Kid shared the moment online, mixing disbelief with gratitude.
“My boy Em got me an early Xmas gift,” he wrote, noting its value and history. Then, jokingly, he added that he still owns the Jordans Eminem once gave him.
A Chain With History
For Shady insiders, a chain is never just jewellery. Instead, it represents trust, shared grind, and years behind the scenes.
DJ Whoo Kid has earned that place. Born Yves Mondesir in Queens, New York, he rose through mixtape culture long before streaming changed everything. During the early 2000s, his G-Unit Radio and Shady Records mixtapes reshaped how fans consumed new music.
Because of that work, Eminem signed him to Shady Records in 2002 as the label’s official DJ. Soon after, Whoo Kid became a constant presence alongside 50 Cent and G-Unit, both on tour and on tape.
The Voice of Shade 45
Over the years, Whoo Kid became inseparable from Shade 45. Every weekend, he hosts Whoolywood Shuffle on SiriusXM. More importantly, he is often the person Eminem speaks with directly on air.

That role peaked in late 2024. At the time, Eminem joined Whoo Kid for a five-hour live broadcast, celebrating Shade 45’s 20th anniversary. Few DJs could carry that moment with the same ease or history.
Shady Takes Care of Its Own
Importantly, this chain means more than a flex. Instead, it reflects years of shared work that rarely makes headlines.
Whoo Kid also co-hosted Mike Tyson’s Hotboxin’ podcast and now runs Whoo’s House, where hip hop stories unfold in respectful conversation between those who understand culture.
Meanwhile, two of his albums have charted on the Billboard 200, as his reach extends beyond radio.
In return, Eminem has always acknowledged the people who stayed close. He rarely speaks about loyalty. However, gestures like this say enough.
Ultimately, the Shady Records chain tells a quiet story. It speaks of consistency, trust, and years spent building something real.
And sometimes, the most meaningful gifts carry a past you can feel.
