Billie Eilish once lost 100,000 followers in the space of just one hour, after posting a photo on Instagram.

Billie, 22, took part in a ‘post a picture’ challenge on social media back in 2020, but followers were quite shocked over the nature of the image she shared.

The singer rose to fame when she was just 14 years old with her debut single ‘Ocean Eyes’, written and produced by her brother, Finneas O’Connell.

Her first studio project When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? rocketed to number one in the US and UK charts, gaining the title as one of 2019’s best-selling albums.

Billie currently has 119 million followers on Instagram, but a few years ago, she lost tens of thousands of followers in the space of an hour.

Despite the sketch simply portraying the naked female body, people managed to take serious offence, and around 100,000 of her followers decided to unfollow her.

One follower quickly noticed the drop in Billie’s followers, and shared a post about it online.

It seems the singer spotted it herself, after she also addressed the controversy in an Instagram Story, writing: “LMFAOOO y’all babies smh”.

Billie has always been pretty open. In fact, she recently opened up about what she called her ‘favourite subject matter’ in an interview.

The pop star was asked what she likes to do to decompress to which she simply said: “Sex.”

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Eilish continued: “I basically talk about sex any time I possibly can. That’s literally my favourite topic.

“My experience as a woman has been that it’s seen in such a weird way.”

She then made an incredibly x-rated admission about how she likes to masturbate in front of a mirror, adding: “Partly because it’s hot, but it also makes me have such a raw, deep connection to myself and my body, and have a love for my body that I have not really ever had.

“I got to say, looking at yourself in the mirror and thinking ‘I look really good right now’ is so helpful.

“I have learned that looking at myself and watching myself feel pleasure has been an extreme help in loving myself and accepting myself, and feeling empowered and comfortable.”

Billie Eilish posted image that saw her lose 100,000 Instagram followers in one hour

Billie Eilish once posted an image that saw her end up losing 100,000 Instagram followers in just an hour.

The ‘Bad Guy’ singer was doing one of those ‘post a picture’ challenges on her Stories back in 2020. But it wasn’t the selfie Chris Hemsworth regretted taking with her or some kind of questionable fashion fit check.

It wasn’t even something super personal, just a little glimpse at a bit of a hobby the 23-year-old had on the go.

Although she’s sitting at a whopping 125 million followers on Instagram nowadays, it seems not everyone can quite accept her vibe or perhaps candidness.

Or, maybe they just can’t handle the idea she’s now an adult with an adult mind.

Billie burst onto the scene way back in 2015 with ‘Ocean Eyes’ as a teenager, but since then she’s had a whole load of hits and albums… as well as growing into the adult she is today.

What was the image?

So, Billie had put up a question box on her Instagram stories, letting fans have the chance to give a suggestion of what she should share pictures of.

And one fan asked for: “A drawing you’re really proud of.”

The ‘Birds of a Feather’ singer shared a snap of a page of sketches of naked breasts, bums and female torsos, plus a couple of snakes for good measure.

“These probably lol I love boobs,” she wrote alongside it.

Despite her drawings literally just portraying the naked female body, some people managed to take serious offence, and around 100,000 decided to unfollow her.

How did she respond?

It’s fair to say Billie is often quite iconic with being outspoken online, so it wasn’t a total surprise that she issued a fairly brutal response to the people who went and clicked the unfollow button.

One of those who had stuck by following the ‘Happier Than Ever’ singer quickly noticed the drop in her follower count and shared a post about it on Instagram.

And it seems Eilish ended up noticing it herself too, as she also controversy by reposting it on her Instagram Story and writing: “LMFAOOO y’all babies smh.”

The hit-maker has always been pretty open and previously spoke about what she called her ‘favourite subject matter’ in an interview.

Billie Eilish once shared an image which caused her to lose a whopping 100,000 Instagram followers in just one hour.

After going viral as a teenager with her viral hit ‘Ocean Eyes’ back in 2015 (where has the time gone?), the singer has been catapulted into the pop music stratosphere with three number one albums and won multiple Grammy Awards for her work.

Hell, Eilish is even a two-time Oscar winner thanks to her songs ‘No Time to Die’ and ‘What Was I Made For?’.

So it’s fair to say that Eilish has successfully cemented her place as one of the biggest pop voices of the generation at the age of 23.

But with huge notoriety comes an equally large amount of responsibility.

Despite the sketches simply portraying the naked female body, when you’re an internationally famous pop star with millions of followers, any opinion you share will offend at least one person somewhere in the world.

And for Eilish this would mean losing 100,000 followers in just one hour, which didn’t make a large dent in the 70 million plus she had at the time, but still, the scandal.

Eilish thankfully didn’t seem too bothered by offending 100,000 social media users, with the star reacting to a post which revealed the comparison of her follower count pre and post ‘boob-gate’.

“LMFAOOO y’all babies smh,” she commented.

The drawings haven’t had too big of an impact on Eilish’s social media presence either, considering that she now has a 124 million strong follower count.

The hit-maker has always been pretty open in regards to her views on sex, even calling it her ‘favourite subject matter’ in an interview.

“I basically talk about sex any time I possibly can. That’s literally my favourite topic,” Eilish told Rolling Stone in 2024, adding that she believes attitudes towards women and sex need to change.

“I think it’s such a frowned-upon thing to talk about, and I think that should change,” she said.

After posting just one Instagram photo, Kylie Jenner lost almost one million followers.

That might sound like a huge number to us normies but let’s be honest, it seems like a bit of a drop in the ocean for the owner of beauty, fashion and drink brands – she’s currently boasting a whopping 392 million followers

Turning 28 this Sunday (10 August), she’s one of the most followed people in the world, with even more followers than her sisters like Kim Kardashian.

So, it seems unlikely that Jenner would have even bat an eyelid when a fraction of her Instagram followers stopped engaging with her posts and clicked the unfollow button.

But social media sleuths were completely on it as they kept track of her follower count.

It’s been a long-running theory that there’s some kind of beef between Bieber and Gomez (who famously dated Justin Bieber before Hailey did). And this chapter began when the Disney Channel star shared a clip poking fun at herself, while explaining she had laminated her brows ‘too much.’

And some believe, just a few hours later, Jenner made a dig at Gomez with a post on her Instagram Story.

She shared a screenshot of her on FaceTime with Bieber, zooming in on both of their eyebrows – which a lot of fans thought was an insult to Gomez.

As a result, they were branded the ‘mean girls’ of social media and received a fair bit of flack for supposedly having a dig at the singer.

Bye Bye followers

So, to show support to Gomez, a number of users decided to unfollow Jenner on Instagram.

Within a matter of days, 124,711 of Jenner’s followers had apparently said goodbye.

By the following week, data from Social Blade indicated that Jenner had lost nearly 750,000 followers.

And Bieber didn’t get off scot-free either, reportedly losing 922,000 followers during this period.

Jenner’s response

At the time, Jenner attempted to set the record straight by commenting on a video explaining the supposed feud by a TikTok creator.

“This is reaching,” she wrote. “No shade towards Selena ever and I didn’t see her eyebrow posts! U guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly.”

Gomez also made it clear there was no bad blood between them, as she responded to the post by saying: “Agreed @kyliejenner. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”

The businesswoman was dragged into the alleged feud between Justin Bieber’s ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, and his now wife and mother of his child, Hailey Bieber.

It all started when Gomez shared a clip poking fun at herself while explaining she had laminated her brows ‘too much’.

According to online bloggers, just a few hours later, Jenner appeared to make a dig at the Disney star, 32, with a post on her Instagram Story.

She shared a screenshot of her on FaceTime with Bieber, zooming in on both of their eyebrows – which a lot of fans thought was an insult to Gomez.

As a result, Jenner and Bieber, 28, were branded the ‘mean girls’ of social media and they received a fair bit of flack for supposedly having a dig at the singer and actress.

In a bid to show Gomez support, a host of social media users decided to unfollow the socialite on Instagram.

In wake of the drama, Gomez announced she would be taking a break from social media, saying she was ‘too old’ for internet beef that has been blown out of proportion.

She’s back on Instagram these days though, and recently announced her engagement to producer Benny Blanco on the platform.
