Tim McGraw is sharing a health update with fans following multiple surgeries, revealing that he is “slowly getting better.”
Tim McGraw Issued Health Update Following Several Major Surgeries
The country star told The Bobby Bones Show host Bobby Bones that he has undergone multiple back surgeries and double knee replacements in the past six to eight months, sharing that he had back surgery before his Standing Room Only Tour last year, which “sort of went south on me right at the beginning of the tour.”
McGraw added that his “knees went out” around three weeks into the run, so he had to finish the trek “with my knees completely gone and my back gone.”
After the tour concluded, McGraw underwent surgery for his knees, but while he was recovering, his back went out again and forced him to require an additional back surgery. “I’m on the upswing now,” he revealed to Bones. “Some mornings are good, some mornings it takes a little while, but it’s getting there.” He added that while he feels better, “Some mornings are better than others. But yeah, slowly getting better.”
Surgeries Forced McGraw To Exit Netflix Acting Role
His latest back surgery has forced McGraw to exit an upcoming Netflix drama series in which he was set to star as a champion bull rider who is “facing a life-or-death crossroads when confronted by the arrival of a fearless young rider whose very existence challenges his ways and unearths secrets that force him to reckon with his past,” according to the show’s log line.
“We were doing a Netflix series where I was playing a five time world champion bull rider who oddly enough had back injuries and wasn’t supposed to ride again and was trying for another world championship,” McGraw revealed to Bobby Bones. “So anyway, we had to push that off.”

When the project was announced, McGraw was also attached as an executive producer. According to Deadline, the show will now move forward with McGraw’s role to be recast, though the future of the show is unclear. The series is created and written by Brandon Camp, who will act as co-showrunner with Taylor Elmore.
Set To Return To Stage At Music City Rodeo In Nashville
Amid his recovery, Tim McGraw is set to return to the stage this weekend with a performance at the inaugural Music City Rodeo, taking place at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Saturday, May 31. He will close out the three-day event, which also includes headlining sets from Reba McEntire and Jelly Roll. McGraw will perform following the rodeo events on Saturday, while Jelly Roll will take the stage on Friday, May 30 and Reba McEntire will kick off the festivities on Thursday, May 29.
The rodeo is Nashville’s first-ever Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association event and is from McGraw’s Down Home, a partnership with Skydance Media, in association with Humes Rodeo.
“Bringing a fun, yet intense, top-tier and world-class athletic spectacle like any baseball or football game to an arena or stadium is exciting,” McGraw told The Tennessean. “Then, add artists like Reba McEntire and Jelly Roll, who are equally excited and jumped on board as Music City Rodeo cofounders and representatives immediately. We’ve dug in our spurs and are coming out of the chute with a great event with a festival-like atmosphere.”
