Adam Levine Reveals the Worst Part of His Return to ‘The Voice’—Spoiler, It Includes a Blake Shelton Dig
For many longtime viewers, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton made The Voice what it is today. An unlikely friendship blossomed between the Maroon 5 frontman and the “Boys Round Here” crooner, revealing surprisingly tender moments between the playful banter and one-upmanship. Although Shelton officially retired from the NBC hit after 2023 seasons, Levine made his long-anticipated comeback this season. And while his best frenemy isn’t physically present on set with him, the “She Will Be Loved” singer has made it clear that Shelton is never far from his mind.
Adam Levine Returns to ‘The Voice’—And Blake Shelton’s “Mangy, Musty Chair”
Even without his buddy Blake Shelton, Adam Levine was thrilled to return to The Voice. In fact, he jokingly declared to People that the best part of his return “is that I don’t have to deal with Blake Shelton.”
And the worst part? “The one bad part about shooting this season of The Voice is that I have to sit in this filthy chair,” the “One More Night” singer told fellow coach Kelsea Ballerini.
Of course, that “filthy chair” has a special place in The Voice lore. Previously, only the “Ole Red” singer, 48, and fellow country singer Reba McEntire had occupied that space. As Levine took his seat during the season 27 premiere, he quipped, “I miss Blake. I’m in his mangy, musty chair.”
Taking another shot at Shelton, the “Moves Like Jagger” singer joked to Jennifer Hudson that the chair “doesn’t smell great.”
“Smells kind of off… weathered,” he said. “Worn in, the seat’s a little more sunken in, ’cause he’s big… he’s a tall drink of water, that guy.”
Will The Bromance Ever Reunite?
Adam Levine’s return to The Voice renewed many fans’ hopes of seeing Blake Shelton once again grace his big red chair. And while Shelton is headed back to the small screen, it won’t be for a 24th season on the NBC show.
The Road, a brainchild of Shelton and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, will hit CBS this fall. The show’s contestants will join headlining act Keith Urban on tour, where they will compete to win over local fans and keep their spot for the next show.
